Hallway Joinery and Patterned Tiling

The junction in the middle of this photograph is the whole job. Patterned encaustic-style tiles run through the hall and meet an oak plank floor on a dead-straight line with no trim, no threshold strip and no level difference — which means the tile bed and the floor build-up were worked out before either was laid.

Around it, a full-height fitted storage unit in grey with slim bronze handles is scribed into the recess, a teal feature wall runs behind it, and glazed doors with a painted architrave complete the hall. It is the sort of detail that gets noticed every day for twenty years.
