Loft Conversions
Turning dead roof space into a room worth having — inspected, planned and finished
Most houses in Trafford and south Manchester have a loft that could be a bedroom, a home office or a bathroom. Some do not — the ridge is too low, the stair cannot land anywhere sensible, or the existing structure will not take it. We'd far rather tell you that at the survey than halfway through.
So every loft job starts with a pre-service inspection and a feasibility study: head height, roof structure, where the staircase goes, what the floor needs to carry, and what building regulations will require in terms of fire escape and insulation. If it works, we build it; if it does not, we'll say so and look at what else the house can give you.
Inspection and feasibility first
We measure the usable head height under the ridge, look at the existing rafters and ceiling joists, and work out where a compliant staircase can land. You get a straight answer on whether the conversion is worth doing before any money is spent on drawings.
Structure, stairs and glazing
New floor structure, dormers or rooflights where the design calls for them, a proper staircase rather than a ladder, and PVC or timber window units fixed and sealed so the room is weathertight and warm.
Finished as a room, not an attic
Insulation, plasterboard and plaster, electrics, flooring and decoration — so what you get back is a bedroom or an office, fully finished, not a boarded-out roof space with a light bulb in it.
A check back after handover
We come back after the job to check the conversion over — the sort of after-service call that costs us an hour and saves you finding a small thing six months later and wondering who to ring.
